Sherry on family vacations (my daughter)

2 October 2007 One Comment

Hello Grammology readers,

I’m curious, how do you feel about family vacations. My husband and I just returned from California visiting our 21 year old son Gary who’s a Marine in

San Diego. We brought our two younger sons and our younger daughter as well as a friend to watch the young ones if we need to participate in some activity the little one can’t. What a great opportunity to connect with the older kids. We took the family out for dinner every night where we talked and caught up on daily life. We went to Rodeo drive where we shopped (kind of browsed) and looked and how the other half lives. Bill took the guys (Gary’s friends and William and Dan) Golfing while Jill (my friend) and I lay by the pool and swam with Noah, Mary,

Becky, (Mary’s friend). Bill took every one charter fishing (except Jill, Becky and I) we did our own thing. All and all we had great times and built wonderful memories. I highly recommend family vacations and hope every one who can take them will.

I think family vacations are fun as well.  Although I do recommend you being recharged when you go with the family.  Sherry and William took us (Joe and I) on a family vacation and did I ever come home tired.

Tell us what you think and give us some ideas about family vacations that everyone can enjoy…re connecting with your kids should be fun.

Thanks for reading us and I hope you’ll comment as well…tells us you like us..

  1. To my beautiful mother, i love your picture! You are so right on the idea of a family vacation, and thats exactly what it should be. Matt and i just returned from a long weekend in Florida, leaving our little guy Trevor at home with grammas of course. We were not even in Florida before i said i had missed him! Although it was nice to get away i missed him so much i wanted to come home early! Im not sure i can leave him behind again and we were only gone for about four days!

  2. I know how you feel but I’m glad you and Matt make time for each other alone too. Your both very attentive parents. I know even though Trevor misses you he has great fun with his grandparents. Im looking forward to another family trip in April or May that will hopefully include you and Matt and Trevor. The whole Sam Fam, maybe even Grammy if we can convince her. Love and Huggs Sherry

  3. We are headed south next weekend on a family vacation!! We haven’t been anywhere since our son was born (he’s 5). So this will truly be our 1st road-trip vacation. I’ll let you know in a couple weeks :)

  4. I haven’t been on a vacation in a while. Any families out there who want to take me with them? Someplace sunny and warm would be nice. :) J/K I went to Atlanta in August to visit friends. I also went on a rafting trip last month in West Virginia. Both were super fun, however, I don’t consider that vacation. That is traveling or going on a trip. To me vacation is going somewhere that you can relax and enjoy the surrounding area doing whatever you want, whenever you want. Like I said before, vacation to me is definitely someplace warm. I have not been on a family vacation in a loooong time. Since my parents are divorced, that’s kinda out of the question. Although, I did go to Trinidad and Tobago with my Dad a few years ago to visit my sister who was studying there. Dorothy was suppose to go with us but we had some technical difficulty before departure. Though we were upset that she couldn’t be with us, it ended up being a really fun time. My sister, my Dad and I had never done anything together before, just the 3 of us. It is probably one of the most memorable vacations I can think of. So yeah, I am all for family vay cays. In fact, the entire side of my father’s family went to a ranch in Idaho a number of years ago. And that was another fabulous vacation. My uncle wrote a song about it and my other uncle had framed picture collages made for everyone that following christmas. We all enjoyed it so much, we went back again a few years later. Man, now I am starting to miss those family vacations. So Dorothy you ready to plan that get away? hehe

  5. Fenicle, I learned a couple of tricks to the trade if you don’t mind a little friendly advice.(plane, train,or car)1.always bring portable dvd player fully charged.2.Bring a backpack or rolling carry on bag with some healthy snacks. 3. in that backpack or rolling carry on pack a few favorite activities a huggy blanket, pillow or favorite stuffed toy.3. if your son is anything like my 4 year old he will love his very own rolling carry on with his toys and activities in it. Well thats all I got… now have fun and Ill check your sight for details when you come back. Sherry

  6. Hey Nancy, I think our parents should take us somewhere wonderful, what do you think?

  7. How does Bossy feel about family vacations? She’ll let you know as soon as they save up enough money to take one.

  8. Hi Bossy, There are all types of vacations, maybe camping or visiting a family member that lives out of town would be fun. Give it a try. Regards Sherry

  9. My hubby and I just took our girls (3 and 5) to the Renaissance Festival here in Texas for the weekend, and we all had a blast. It was not terribly expensive and didn’t involve too much traveling time (2.5 hours each way) and it was great fun!

  10. Hello Carey, Thank you for your comment about your family vacation. I’m sure your girls will remember the fun and look forward to more trips like it. Hope you took pictures. now that most of my kids have grown up the pictures we have of those special times are priceless.

    Sherry
