Sunday Church and Lunch with family

30 December 2007 One Comment

Some of my family joined my husband and me for church and lunch today. It was wonderful. We went to the Wesleyan Church which was the congregation who sent over 500 care boxes to my grandson’s troop currently serving in Iraq. Their goal every soldier in Gary’s troop serving (900) to receive goodies and notes from home.

The service was as usual wonderful. Filled with inspiration and information as to how to know and love our God. I depart feeling joyful and optimistic about life. This emotion carries me through the week where I know I’m concentrating on being a better person because God wants me to be that way. The golden rule is so simple. It doesn’t matter what your faith. If you do it…life will be better for all of us. Imagine if we never had bullies, or killings, because we all knew better? Is that so hard to think of accomplishing in this angered and hostile world? I often wonder what we’d need to do to make us kinder to each other. I remember the man who said “Couldn’t we all just get along?” Such a simple, moving and seemingly impossible request, can if ever be achieved?

Today, as my family was in church and later lunch. I felt good as we shared laughter, happiness, and memories of the past year. Everyone had to rise early and drive several miles to meet in the middle and do our convoy. The effort seemed rewarding to us all. We were smiling and boosting with happiness as a family filled with love and anticipation as we face 08. Pastor Karl and Pastor Anita prayed with our family. Gary returns to Iraq this coming year. I face an operation and when we left; we all were confident our year would be alright. We would face our mountains with God and get through the year together.

Tonight my husband and I are going to a dinner party with two girlfriends and their husbands. My friends and I have had dinner once a month for over 30 years. We haven’t missed but three dinners for weather related reasons. We know and love each other as we are. Each dinner we share the month of the good, bad, and the ugly… The dinners never prove anything less then fun and filled with new surprises. I’m looking forward to tonight as it’s at one of my friend’s home and will allow us more freedom for our crazy personalities. I’ll take photos and share tomorrow.

Hoping your going to have a good day Monday as we begin our New Year…. Happy New Year to my new friends may we all receive one of our dreams during the coming months.

  1. Dorothy, I missed a couple of your posts since the last one and was so sorry to come and read about your ovarian cancer. A friend of ours just found out she has a tumor on her ovary and is scheduling surgery for just after the New Year as well. Scary stuff. I’m thinking of you and hope you find that it’s early and that it will be OK. I’m glad you’re enjoying the time with your family over the holidays. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you.

  2. Thank you I’m scared however filled with confidence that I’ll be alright. I’ll keep everyone posted. I think it bothers me most I’ll be off work for 6 to 8 weeks…It’s a good thing I have my blog…..

    Thanks for your thoughts..
