My New Years Resolution

4 January 2008 No Comment

Here it’s the third day of Januaryand I haven’t begun to think of this coming year. I usually make plans to change things in my life. Loose weight, earn more money. Plan a trip somewhere different. This year I can’t seem to make myself focus on the subject. Have you?

Maybe it’s my age it’s the normal passage where you fear time is running out. Wondering is there is anything I haven’t done that I better do? Or is it just life which seems to be filled with stress, heavy schedules. Work until you drop and in the end, what did I miss?

As I thought about all these important questions I decided I’d ask you.

Have you thought of what you wanted to accomplish in life? Will you ever marry? If so, will you have children? Will you own a home? Are you happy in your job? Was there a job or career you hesitated to try? Now you’re settled in your job, paid a decent wage, so how could you start over at this time in life?

Are you one of those people just getting by in life, can’t put your finger on your uncertainty? Feeling there should be something more and not knowing what to look for.

Thinking further, if you were sick and didn’t know how much time you had left in this world, who is most important to you? Who would you want to spend your last days with? Where would you go to stay for that time? Is your home your castle or would you travel? Not staying too long anywhere.

If you ask yourself these questions wouldn’t it give you some indication of your level of happiness with your current existence? Perhaps it would suggest a life changing event? If you come up oblivious, as to what will make you happy don’t give up. Give it serious deliberation. Think about your past and what made you happiest. Who were you with? What was that contented feeling all about?

Concentrate on your most rewarding memories, gather them in your mind and decide how you can make them happen again. I know why I had no incentive to plan for 08 like so many of us. I got caught up in the traffic jam of every day life. I’m off the highway collecting my thoughts. I’m determined to get back to my most important goals in life. Doing what makes me happiest. Can you do the same? Can we do this together, one happy day at a time?

Enjoy, get thinking, Dorothy

  1. Dorothy, I can identify with what you’re thinking about – especially with your recent diagnosis. I forget if I mentioned to you that I had oral cancer (of the tongue) three years ago myself, and although mine was a very early cancer and luckily did not require any follow-up treatment, at the time I was first diagnosed I didn’t know what the future would hold. It really makes you think about what is important in your life and what priorities to have. I hope to start over in a year or two (even though I’m already 54, I feel as if I could easily have another career) – need to earn a bit more ‘real’ money first. But in a year or two I’d like to do something different that contributes more to society or to a cause than the job I have now. That would be my ideal.

  2. The oral cancer must have been scary. Did you have symptoms? This cancer stuff is crazy, I’m convinced it’s the crap they put in our fruit, meat, water everything. I think the dam government has gotten so complacent because of lobbyists, we are excluded from any consideration about health and our personal welfare. It’s appalling. We’re destroying ourselves and we have no idea of why. My daughter told me the strawberries which are white inside and red outside are so because of the gas they use to ripen the berries.. Help me believe that can be healthy…go figure… Anyway, so glad to get to know you…think about being an author…and write more. You can self publish on the web. You have great insight.. Helping others fill their dream..as you do it share the information. Have you read Wendy’s site emoms@home? She shares great ideas…working from home gives great flexibility.

Do you have my email? Feel free to send me notes..love hearing from you…

  3. Wow, I don’t know if I really made any New Year’s resolutions….I am trying to change my career as we speak…I’ve heard from too many people that life is too short…and I don’t want children…My personal life is good, but I need to be doing something career-wise that is more exciting…so I’m going for it! But, yes it’s a great time to reflect on what we should change and what we shouldn’t…

  4. You go girl, and don’t give up until you love getting up and going to work each day. We spend more time in our jobs then any other place in our lives. You have to be peaceful about what your going to do for living in order to be happy with your life.

    Hugs and blessings…..
    Dorothy
