What its really like to shave your head

Cancer Update

Today I must reside myself to the fact that I am loosing my hair. It’s everywhere. I’m in denial, and surprised as I thought I’d be better about this then I am. What is this about hair and its importance…I always thought it was overrated. Well today I now know its not and I’m sad. I will be bald soon and I wonder for how long and what I’ll do when I go out. I thought I’d just show my bald head proudly. Come to think about it. I may reconsider that approach.

Later in the day my sister and I decided to shave my head. Get it over with. I’m over the shock and now wondering why it took so long. While I was moping I was dropping hair everywhere. How do I look? Odd, no question we are not meant to not have hair. However, I’m over it and moving on. David will be adding some photos to flicker in the next few days and you’ll get to see me pretty bald. It’s not a pretty thing, however, neither is cancer and we’re getting through it just great. I’m finally gaining my energy and trying to stay up without a nap during the day.

I’m grateful for all the support my friends and family have given me and now I need to move on and become Dorothy again. It’s not so easy, because you do want to have pity on yourself. I’m done and I’m sure this cancer is gone and my Kidney will fully recover from the shock of the Chemo.

Watch for the photos, they’re scary and enjoy. My sister said be careful not to overuse my makeup so I don’t look like a clown with a bald head… Some sense of humor she has. Looking forward to when it grows back some say it comes in better then before. We’ll see.

My best, Dorothy

Dorothy, just wanted to step in and say you have been in my prayers. You rock! Thanks for sharing your life with all of us. Without you knowing, you have touched many lives.

  3. You have amazing strength. I began losing my hair a couple of years ago due to a medication I was taking and there really is nothing like that feeling of facing life as a balding woman for whatever the reason may be, it doesn’t feel natural by any means. I have complete admiration for you and for your strength.

  4. When my mother started losing her hair to chemo she shaved it off and she said she felt a lot better after she did it. She wasn’t worried about losing it anymore, she was looking forward to it growing back.
