Teaching kids working is for a long time
My daughter has seven children five grandchildren which makes me a mom gram and great grandmother and over the last 22 years it’s been my greatest challenge to give each child a special part of me thus leaving them with cherished grandma memories and principles which will help them later in life which brings me to William my 14 year old grandson who recently began working at a dog kennel two days a week cleaning cages and when he complained he already hated his job I wondered how he’d be able to work a lifetime if this part time job had already become a burden.
He didn’t want to go to the kennels and clean dog poop he preferred just having fun and not getting up when he could sleep in on the weekends and relax however, he knew by the work ethics of his dad and mom no matter how much he longed to stay home and just be a kid he was sure working was what you did and his parents teaching him his work habits will determine his success later in life or so he hoped. Thus I’m sharing views which might be helpful to you when your children are old enough to get a job because their frame of mind will establish how successful they are when they begin working for a living and for most families that can be at an early age therefore consider how these ideas could help you with your children when it’s their time to join the work force.
Help them understand education is important whether college or training for a specific job because working should be something they enjoy and choosing the right field will important and their brand of training or education whether a hairdresser or college professor knowledge will help them be successful in their field.
coaching on how to get a job and keep it by being on time and leaning to be a respectful and polite worker always wanting to do a good job for their employer and his customers so they keep coming back because they provide good friendly service.
Be careful not to make their lives so comfortable they won’t think they need to work if you supplement their income and they have everything they need and want why would they work therefore maintaining a balance of what you give them is important so they realize working is part of life almost forever.
Before they begin working it will be important to teach them certain work principles being on time and dressing appropriately for the type of job they do checking with their boss to see what he expects.
Letting them know it’ll never be easy to give up having fun and being free to work however this is life and so we all do our time and careful planning can make it easier so they don’t have to work as much. Saving and not spending as quickly as they receive money will be a hard pattern to establish as kids today have a lot of places to use money. Therefore the habits you start with them usually carry through their lives so think about the examples you set knowing you behaviors is an example for them later in their lives.
I see so many patterns in my daughter that we’re not only mine but my mom as well furthermore I know I was the strong influence in her time and I often wonder if her life might have been easier it I’d taught her different because everything you do as a parent (Plain and Simple) is a probable prototype in your child’s world so as a parent ask yourself if this is what you want for your child’s future if not reconsider the things you allow your children to see you do and make sure your example is a good one. It’s not going to be easy however in the end both you and your children will be happier because today one of the most important values you can bestow on your kids is being willing and able to work hard and spend the earnings wisely.
