"Gain weight and start smoking." That really made me laugh!!!!! Now that's a way to enter into the New Year!!!! Throwing ideals out of the window and embracing a good sense of humor!!!!! hahahahahaha! Very profound and unique and yet...SO YOU. I think when we're willing to be open to others in more than a surface way, willing to let them share their deepest feelings, concerns, joys, ideas, regrets, whatever it is...then we truly change the world. We liberate ourselves and others from often too constrictive and destructive "social prisons", which often teach us to hold it all in. Don't rock the boat. Save face. Keep up the image. And so on. But if we can listen WITHOUT judgment, without trying fit the other person into our value or moral system or way of responding to the world....then we will not only have the great honor of seeing who they REALLY are, but they also will get to discover more of themselves. We may be the ONLY one they show their true selves to, but it can be enough to set them free. We also liberate ourselves and come to know REAL love, compassion and wisdom. When we listen with truly open hearts and minds we expand our OWN perceptions, beliefs, and view of the world. This is a HIGHLY admirable resolution. I look forward to hearing how your journey goes. You are a real gift to those we are blessed to share in even part of your life. So I count myself as blessed. Thank you for your generous and gracious spirit.
