Our trip to the Movie It’s Complicated

It was complicated

It was complicated

I’m been pleased with some of the movies we’ve been able to see lately and yesterday was no exception as my husband and I saw  “It’s complicated” with Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin who were hilarious, entertaining and made it feel as though we were watching a real life family having everyday issues to deal with.  We laughed and we looked in amazement when we thought Alec Baldwin was as funny as Steve Martin, a side we hadn’t seen in him before as we’ve never watched 30 rock and now we will.

However, it indeed provoked feelings many of us have these days, (when your older then 60) pondering what we think about our lives and where they’re heading,  it even coincided with a post I read from Seth Godin, who I guess is the think tank guru and most annoying, he felt many of the baby boomers were whiners and not moving forward in this computer technological world, as it is challenging and we can either embrace it or stay in our old comfort zones and not enjoy life  (which is my interpretation of his outlook) or the insinuation we (the baby boomers) can’t be forward thinkers and innovators because the web and computer hold us back and that it’s the younger generations who will lead us to our next wave of technology and lifestyle huh, that’s what he thinks that my brain is stagnant no longer a useful tool unable to be happy in this climate.  So for that reason between seeing the movie where romance and living is still popular, and examining the middle aged divorced couple interact, I began asking myself am I living my life to it’s fullest or is that dam Seth Godin correct, are in a rut unable to move forward or even be a creator opening a new business if I want, thus I thought I’d incite you to see the movie and tell me what you think about how your life is going, while I determine,  exactly what’s going on in mine and what I’ll do with 2010, yes I like the sound of that question.  Maybe, my partner and I should do something more creative with our blog grammology, set our goals higher, or sell a new product, or  maybe I should have an affair with one of my previous husbands with the purpose of helping me understand life better (Yaw think)….emmm this is a lot to comprehend, could a movie provoke all those thoughts so effortlessly, or is it you who haven’t been able to clarify what exactly makes you content and you decide it’s time to contemplate and do it, thus take time to go see, It’s Complicated and get those creative feelings moving for 2010 work on being happy and thank you Steve Martin, Meryl Streep, and Alec Baldwin, you rock.

Too be continued…

I think that film will go on my list — it looks fun! I think that we elders — at least the ones who are still trying to have a life — are more open to new experiences than many who are giving up — and the good news is we are healthier and happier for it. I know too many women and men who are simply resigning and don’t/won’t do things because they’re too old.

Every time someone tries to pigeon-hole a group of people I get so irritated. We boomers are just as diverse, innovative, lazy, etc. at the rest of society. Some of us rock, some of us wish we could rock and the rest of us think rocks are what surround the flower bed! We continue to change society and will long after we have passed on and Mr Seth has expired as well.

Do you read Greg’s General Store? One of the things he was thankful for on Thursday is that he is able to be content with little. I think that is both a gift and something to strive for. Sometimes ‘gurus’ thing people are not moving forward simply because they themselves don’t understand the meaning of contentment.
I really don’t think its necessary to be striving for something, it is just as worthwhile to do nothing and simply BE. The other day I took the toboggan out onto our icy lane and whizzed down it a few times (shrieking with fright the whole way!) just for fun. My family were inside by the fire. Well I know that makes me one crazy dollybird, but I felt so good afterwards. What would a guru have said if he’d seen that display?!
But yes, I’d like to see ‘It’s Complicated’ as it sounds good, and anyhow I enjoy Meryl Streep!

I don’t know why I really love reading your blog. Maybe my english is kinda weak and I can learn a lot of new vocabs here. :) Thanks for sharing such a good movie.

    Good day. x

Yeah, why is it some people insist that if you’re over 50, you can’t think any more or learn new things or be an asset to society? I don’t know about you, but…now what was I going to say?
Glad you enjoyed the movie. I haven’t seen it yet. Princess and the Frog was the movie I saw with the grand kids!
    Have a great day!

    I have NOT seen this movie yet – but I am DYING to. Alec Baldwin has been my ‘imaginary’ husband since 1988! And you should definitely watch the show 30Rock, he is BRILLIANT along with Tina Fey! {and that’s not just my massive crush talking!}

Anything by Meryl Streep, I HAVE to see. My first non-kiddie movie was Kramer vs Kramer when I was around 8 or so…. and I thought she was absolutely brilliant in The Devil Wears Prada.

I am looking forward to seeing this movie. And as Oprah says ‘60′ is the new ‘50′, ‘50′ the new ‘40′, etc ~ and since we know “you are only as old as you think” ~ then let’s ignore people like this Seth Godin and not let people like that rent space in our heads.

My mom is 65, has herself a younger man, does all her banking on the internet, is on Facebook, texts with her Blackberry, goes South for 3 months of the year and travels through-out the rest of the year. She has a way more exciting life then I do and I’m 44! ha ha!

    Have a lovely day!

OMG, yes! You must watch ‘30 Rock’! It is the funniest show on television! I missed the first 3 seasons, but am a devoted follower now! You might want to rent or borrow from the library a couple of seasons to catch you up. My new favorite comedy is ‘The Middle’ with Patricia Heaton. She is hilarious and so is everyone else on the show.

I have to say that I love the blogging community and I love blogging. I have learned soooo much about writing, photography and computers since starting mine 18 months ago. It really is an education. Seth Godin can go suck eggs!

I have always ALWAYS loved Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin. I really can’t wait to watch this movie. Anything with Meryl, I wanna get my hands on it, ever since I first saw her in Mamma Mia or was it Doubt? Haha. You really need to start watching 30 Rock. It’s one of my favorite shows, with my favorite girl, Tina Fey!

Nowadays, a lot of lives are wasted on different things while some pursue their dreams. People are more afraid of commitment and everything just got so complicated cos it could go different ways.

    Hi Dorothy,
I just love Meryl. We recently saw Julie and Julia via Time Warner’s
On Demand. It was excellent. She is the most versatile actress in Hollywood.

Now I cannot wait to see this movie. The previews have been appealing but we all know how deceiving previews can be. Of course I love Meryl and who doesn’t so why would I expect anything else but good? I have to wait for Netflix however, so it will be a while. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the recommendation. I’m definitely putting “it’s complicated” high on my list. I just watched Streep in Julie and Julia. She’s such a superb actress, and always a delight to watch.
As for Mr. Godin’s comments I account them to be vacuous as most opinions are.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments regarding our friend Meryl and Alec and yes I’m making sure I watch 30 Rock as Alec is a stitch and I can only imagine this show is as good as Seinfeld…

I’m really excited about the new year, I feel like things will be tough yet somehow better then last year, thus lets get through this together and continue sharing our many thoughts which can often be a bright spot in our otherwise dreary day..

    Hugs me….Dorothy

I think you will do what you want with 2010, and you won’t be bothered by people who tell you what you SHOULD do with 2010. That’s the kind of lady you seem like to me. I guess it’s ok to talk about Seth G as long as you don’t shave your head and start thinking yourself an expert on things. Let others tell you if you are an expert instead of writing wikipedia articles about oneself, like ol’ Seth does, I say. Seth is not as funny as Alec, but in his more serious moments, he is pretty funny.

    Hi Dorothy,

    Your website is great~

We’re supposed to see “It’s Complicated” this weekend, but Mother Nature is thinking of delaying us with horrid winter weather. So we shall see. Love Meryl Streep. Funny about people thinking oldies like me just sit at home and knit or something. I love going out with my friends, and do it several times a week. Lunching, shopping, walking, etc. are our hobbies! Haha.

Thank you for your comment on my blog, which is rather neglected these days. I am more active on Facebook. Are you on there?

Hope the new year brings many blessings your way!

    Hugs,

    Renie

I haven’t seen a movie in a movie theater for ages. I usually wait until they’re on DVD because movies are so ridiculously expensive here in California. You’ve peaked my interest though, so maybe I will break my rule and see this one before it makes it to Netflix. A

As far as classifying Baby Boomers and technology, I think that sometimes these computer gurus forget that some technology is truly beneficial and some is just useless. It fine to catch up with friends on FaceBook, but if your life is filled with virtual friends instead of real friends, that’s nuts. Technology is not always beneficial.
