Girlfriends gather in Chicago

I had so much fun with my friends in Chicago this week I left on Thursday and returned late Sunday afternoon, there were four women and one evening five of us, four over the age of 60, Scottie was in her 50’s blonde, tall and skinny, and we were all jealous of her beautiful and youthful face and body, as the days passed we worked our way through the long weekend by eating, drinking, and sharing our most personal thoughts about our past, present and future lives and how we’d cope as we move forward hence,  understanding more and that maybe we weren’t alone in our uncertainty about our lives.

As we talked I found myself surprised as to how each of us wondered about so many things in our current lives because by now (at this age) getting out of bed every day and living the life we’d planned was what we projected we’d be doing, and in actuality it was from the truth, as most of us were still finding ourselves dreaming about so many things we hadn’t done yet.  Thus like the movie the Bucket List, we should as women, get together compile our thoughts and needs, and get to work checking the important things off and moving on until it’s done and when it’s finished, start over because we deserve the most we can squeeze into our lives on this earth, and going to Chicago with women as straight forward as me, was revitalizing and empowering and I can’t wait until my next trip with my Girlfriends because I’ll bet we’ll start right where we left off,  treasure every secret we shared to our graves,  find out how to enjoy the time we have, and leave knowing we’ll be back again, learning from each other, we know our counter parts have done this forever, (referred too as male bonding) thus learn from them, plan your getaway as soon as possible and don’t back out go.

We ate at Shaw’s Crab House, Gibson’s, Bandera, and Frankie’s, shopped all the big stores and loved all the people watching, our next trip will be a Broadway show and some unique bars and it’ll be in New York City.  Two of our friends are airline stewardesses and the stories and laughs we had were endless and I’ve come to an important conclusion as a result of this excursion with the girls, the choices we make choose the path’s we will take and there’s no going back thus, many things have been reiterated in my mind and my future choices will provide me with a new direction however, in this case it will be well thought out before I act allowing me more control of the results.  Therefore if any of you ever have a chance for time away with friends and the opportunity to be frank and open during your conversations regarding, life, love and your happiness and theirs, plan it soon and be open minded, you’ll come home recharged and ready to survive whatever’s coming your way, just like the movie The Bucket List with no regrets only priceless memories, energy and a reason to feel your not alone and you can do it if only you try.

I so much need to do something like this. I was talking to a friend tonight, someone like me who doesn’t do what he wants to do when he wants to do (we were discussing why we don’t do these kinds of things). We both decided that as soon as the time was right we would do those things. I can already hear what you are going to say. That time will never come unless I make it. This was a nice reminder of that, and the wonder that can come from doing it.

Sounds like a real blast! I’m glad you had fun. And I’m amazed also, as the years go by, I’m thinking of the things I have yet to accomplish!

That was nice, Dorothy! Your post reminds me of the movie Groundhog Day. In the movie, Bill Murray (the main actor) wakes up everyday only to find himself re-experiencing the events that took place during Groundhog Day. This happens over and over again until he finally realizes that he should just make the best out of it. The movie tells us to live in the present and enjoy each and every moment instead of holding on to the past or expecting too much from the future. Thanks for your very insightful post, and I hope you have a good day.

    Peace and respect,
    Ryhen

That’s the way to go. We sometimes get lost in our little world. We worry because things are not as planned. But when we listen to others we find it is not something wrong with us. It is the way the world works. Do what you can and want to each day. Set your goals but don’t worry about filling them. Let things happen. Just don’t fall into a rut.
    That’s enough rambling.
    Thanks for visiting Grampys World.

You spent time recharging your batteries and that can be so refreshing! I’ve done a trip or two over the years but haven’t been able to do that kind of excursion in a while. It’s funny, because simply reading about yours I had such fun thinking of all the things that you did and the times for talking where you could share and cleanse each other.

Thanks for this time that you shared…it was great to experience even a small part of the joy you got from your time in Chicago.

What a great time you must have had! How sweet to be with friends and reminisce. I think all of us should make our own Bucket List and try to see it through. Mine will not, however, include sky-diving!

If only I had been a fly on the wall when you girls were chatting away. I may have been able to take on board the things that us men forget about in order to enrich my better half’s life. As for the “Bucket list” what a fantastic movie. Don’t tell anyone but at certain stages it brought more than a tear to my eye, and the next, had me rolling around in laughter. Good to see you back in the swing of things! Take Care – Peter
