A kidnapping, a sensless killing: the System fails us again

Madonna and child2

I watch television with a heavy heart as the news is covering what might be the discovery of the body of the young girl who went missing while innocently jogging near her home in San Diego. I was heartsick this morning when I watched her devastated parents and my heart aches for them. Losing a child to illness or an accident is unthinkable, the pain is unimaginable. Losing a child to violence in this way is beyond comprehension. I feel puzzled, sad and downright angry and outraged because the suspect is a registered sex offender who has a history of raping a child in this very neighborhood. Why is this person even allowed to exist free in our neighborhoods EVER? How do we even begin to understand this?? What is our system good for if we cannot keep our young people safe?? How can we have KNOWN sex offenders living in neighborhoods unchecked as in this case where there were other mysterious attacks and missing young girls right in this same area? Today, I also read about the young girl who was killed after living in an abusive household and being checked by Social Services. How do we even begin to understand how this can happen? This is an outrage that these kinds of atrocities occur in our country while our system does nothing to protect our most vulnerable. Where does it end and what can we do about it? How do you feel about this, I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

The number of sex offenders who are “off the grid” is shocking. I don’t know the answer, but I know it is an abomination that our system doesn’t figure out a way to track, to secure them and to protect the rest of us. I wouldn’t care if they were all placed on an island with no shade and no food.

    This just makes me sick.
I actually did a search when we moved and was astounded how many sex offenders are out there! Very sad :(

Yes, the same thing happens here with one just recently happening to a little girl, and would you believe it we don’t have capital punishment.

It is a shame we can’t take care of children like we should. We seem to give all the rights to the bad guys.

My thought is that the Judge who turns these predators loose should be willing to let this felon live with his/her family for at least 30 days after they are released. Would the Judge be willing for the sex offender to live near his/her children and grandchildren before turning them out on the general public? We have a beautiful teenage granddaughter who lives within spitting distance of Poway where this horrible crime took place. It makes me shudder.

The death penalty gets more attractive every time I see these kinds of things. I’m on your side here.

My understanding is that these offenders are more likely to repeat their crimes than any other group. To me that means they just need to never be released.

We have towns here in California where there are thousands of sex offenders and only a handful of parole officers that keep track of them. That’s what happened in the town where Jaycee Dugard was held captive for all those years. If there aren’t enough law enforcement officials to keep track of them then either don’t release them or tell them that these areas are “at capacity” and they need to move somewhere else. I could see that this would snowball and offenders will deliberately head to towns where there is not enough law enforcement to keep track of them if something isn’t done.

The worst part is that we pay hundreds of millions here in CA to protect the Delta Smelt (fish the size of a minnow) when we can’t protect our children from these monsters. I guess you can tell I’m more than a little fired up about this!

I agree with you, this was an awful tragedy. I don’t really know what we can do to prevent it other than keep our children hidden inside a bubble. My heart and prayers go out to this young lady’s family.

Thanks for stopping by Healthy Moms!

I heard about this as well, and my heart aches every time. It just baffles and angers me how criminals like these are allowed to be part of society.

This kind of news breaks my heart. Literally. I think that pedophiles should be castrated upon release from prison. Or caged forever. Period.

I saw this last night and then I saw Jerry Brown stumble all over it on Larry King. He actually said the guy shouldn’t have gotten out so soon. As if keeping him in a little longer would have cured him. I’m all for the death penalty for people like this. They can’t be rehabilitated and they are just a waste on our resources. No family should have to go through this kind of thing.

These people should never be released as there is no cure, not even castration. It is more of a mental problem than a sexual one so even castration does not work. I would advise anyone with children or grandchildren to Google Megan’s Law. You can then type in the address and learn where the predators are. You will be amazed and disheartened, but it sends up a red flag to watch your children. It is horrendous that any family must go through this.

It is horrible to think that something could have been done in the situation. It hurts to know that this girls could have a better future…and nw it’s all over just because something has not been done. The world has become a cruel place …a devil’s playgound. NO one is safe anymore. And it seems people are losing the nerve to even feel cmpassion for life.

I agree totally – we had a lively discussion afterwatching Nancy Grace last night. I wonder why lawmakers/judges do not keep them in jail.

Such a world we live in. Most of these offenders even tell the authorities that they can’t stop. I know if they are caught by the general population, they have their own system of justice on these sickos.

Sorry I can’t be nice Dorothy. Your commenters who wring their hands and wonder ‘what we can do’, wonder this, wonder that, are the REASON that criminals and perverts are allowed their ‘rights’ in our sad and over-sophisticated societies. Today you scream that ’something should be done’ this evening you scream that you are being impoverished by high taxes and controlled by ‘big government’.

No, my friends, you do NOT want to pay the price of safety for our women and children; the price is distracting yourselves (yes, you lovely people above) from living your lives to the full. You want to keep your profiles low while everything is going great for YOU, you will not break into your leisure routine to get out and raise hell when something like this happens. You don’t even want to take some time out to think about the problem – let ‘them’ castrate the perverts or cage them for life. Trouble is ‘they’ want paying, and you don’t want to pay for society’s organisation along human lines. No, this reduces YOUR ‘freedom’and would threaten the ‘economy’

Me? I want comfortable near-natural high security facilities for violent people where they work for privileges if they can and live well enough if they can’t. Let them practice their violence on each other in their own enclosed society without the benefit of hand-wringing by gentle people like us. America can afford the new infrastructure – segregate the violent, but first pay more to be sure that the right people are ‘allowed in’.

Thanks for popping in Dorothy, Hi Cher, nice to see you.
