Women and their friends

Watching the movie The Women with Meg Ryan was a pleasure as the innocence in the part that Meg Ryan played was refreshing as she encountered her husband wanting a divorce while she thought they had a wonderful marriage. There was friendship, betrayal and in the end forgiveness, and the everlasting alliance that will often have to endure the storms in order to survive the old saying “friends for life”. A new expression “keep it in the vault” became a future phrase for me as I often share information or thoughts with my friends that I expect will never be shared no matter what the agony they experience, like a crypt, the secret is safe therefore now I use the adage with my friends and keep in mind they often last longer then marriages with the statistics boosting high divorce rates among us.

I’m pleased to boast I have a few of those friendships and through it there have been times where my friends and I decided we’d not talk for awhile as each of our personalities began to wear down the strong bonds we’d shared for many years, which often happens to friendships and we’d give each other space in order to continue the relationship we loved for so many years when things quiet down. And inevitably it does calm down and we move forward and realize we made it through another hurdle and our camaraderie continues stronger, and better then before with each of us learning more about life and ourselves. Thus, seeing the movie which focuses more on friends then marriage I watched it all and decided I’d see it again, as I realized there was a great deal of reality in this fun loving, movie about women and their lives, so see it on HBO or rent it on a pay per view, it’s worth the time and you’ll learn something in the process about the importance of Women and their need for friendship. And if it seems like I’m brushing over marriage and divorce for this post I am, although I’ll be back with my thoughts on exoneration in a marriage when there is adultery, and how I suggest it should be handled I hope you can’t wait to hear what I’m thinking.

Oh I absolutely loved this movie. I actually watched it with my sister, mom, and my daughter…so we had a bit of a ‘Women’ audience. I also watched the original version afterward to see what the differences were. The bottom lines and the ability of each chosen actress was superb.

Interesting! It definitely seems worth checking out.

Guys need friends too. Sure they need the “Buddy, buddy” type of friend who they can drink a beer with and watch a game. But they also need real friendships where they can express themselves. That’s a huge problem with guys. They isolate themselves so much that they only have their spouses or partners to talk with. They need to get more perspective, and maybe some of the cheating and other shenanigans that go on, would cease!

On a personal note, I have a bunch of great women friends who I cherish as much as any of my male friends. And the best part, my wife is totally cool about it because she knows they are not a threat to her at all, but actually help me understand the psyche of a woman.

I guess your post got me thinking! Thanks!

I completely agree with One of The Guys and his comment. We do tend to isolate ourselves, but I don’t think ti is on purpose. Maybe it is part of our genetics and as we grow older I think we realize the importance of having a few good male friends. I have I believe three close make friends and we might talk once a month on the phone and that’s it. We rarely go out for lunch or do something, like most women do.

That being said I will enjoy watching this film on several fronts. I enjoy ‘chick flicks” not the ones on Lifetime, yuck. I really love a good independent film that tackles great issues. Most male flicks are shoot them up, etc. I do enjoy a male flick where they delve into the emotions of what todays man has to deal with. And believe me there are many. Sometimes i really believe men do not know exactly what their roles are anymore. Especially a middle aged white male. I could go into that for hours, but won’t. I also want to see this film to see one of my sweethearts Meg Ryan. Ever since her surgeries, I rarely see her anymore in films.

I better end my comments now, as I look to my right on your blog is this absolutely delicious looking blueberry pancake and my stomach is talking to me loudly. Leading to this segway: The way to a mans heart is…… :-) Have a wonderful weekend Dorothy

Even as a man I am a sucker for a ‘chick-flic’ besides a good action film. As for marriage, it is like traveling the oceans, with ups and downs. We have been married for 23 years this coming April and from my perspective, there is room for improvement on both sides.

    Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
    Egmont

I loved that movie. All relationships need breaks in them to keep the boredom, aggervation and staleness from settling in.

I have not seen this, but now with your recommendation, I will. Friendships have interesting dynamics. If you can keep them alive, they are to be treasured.

Hi! Being a girly movie I haven’t seen this yet, but no doubt I will when the wife catches a glimpse of it on the promos!

As for my friends, they all seem to be those I work with. Working in the same place for almost 25 years is to blame. One thing I can tell you, is that if you want something to spread like the plague you only have to utter a few juicy words to get things going! Nothing is sacred!

    Take care,
    Peter

Like a few others, I’m waiting for it on Netflix, but I can’t wait to see it. My plan is to watch it when my husband is traveling, since it doesn’t look like his kind of movie. Female friends are very important–you can count on them to listen with interest to the kind of topics that make your man’s eyes glaze over.

Well, I will be the lone voice here. I hated this film. In fact, I thought it was such a terrible movie I had a hard time seeing it to the end. To me it wasn’t real in any way and the women were horrible to each other….The original film, which this film was based on but strayed from drastically, was a very good film.
Sorry to disagree Dorothy….but, there you have it.
Incidentally, a really wonderful documentary, in my opinion, called “THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE” is very much worth seeing and it is rentable from Netflix. I did a review of it a few posts back.
