Oprah, I love that show

Oprah and Simon he admitted he’d suffered from depression

Most of us have times when we feel down and out and I found it refreshing that Simon Cowell acknowledged he suffered from depression from time to time and had also lost everything financially at age 30, had to move in with his parents and started over.  It was inspirational that he didn’t give up and became more successful then he could imagine coming from such a low point in his life didn’t mean he couldn’t make it all over again, because he did and I was empowered by his words, as it means any of us can hit bottom and come back when we try and don’t give up.  Oprah on the other had challenged Simon when he mentioned he felt lucky as she thinks luck is non existent that it’s all about you and being prepared when the opportunity presents itself, therefore I wondered if you agree and think there is no such thing as luck, because after I write this short post, (because of guilt) I feel badly that I haven’t written and our site is still up, I’m heading out to purchase a lottery ticket since I feel lucky today, how about you.

And if you had a chance to see Oprah today, how did you feel about her interview with Simon I thought he was amazing and I even liked him, as he seemed so average and not at all as arrogant as we think while we watched him during his talent show.  I came home at four o’clock today as I have an awful cold and it was one of those rare occasions I get to see Oprah in action, she’s quite a lady, if I had a wish it would be to talk with her a few moments there is so much going on in her head thus imagine what I could learn from her even though I’m older and supposedly wiser (I don’t think so) big chance so I’ll forget that thus,  I’m off to the store for that ticket and I hope your all doing well.  I’ll still be visiting all my blogging friends as I learn so much from all of you, we all do blogging is amazing.

I’m actually sorry I missed that. I don’t watch AI, but I know Simon is obnoxious. Interesting that he can be nice!

I think luck can change a person’s life, but luck is a rare event. In most cases it is just as Oprah said. You have to work and plan and then when you are in the right place at the right time or have the right people behind you, it is not luck.

While I do agree that being prepared is very important. The book Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell makes a very compelling case that being in the right place at the right time (which is often luck) is equally important.

I am a huge Simon fan. I loved his interview with Oprah. His answers were so honest and open. And it really did show another side to him!

“it means any of us can hit bottom and come back when we try and don’t give up”

    Exactly!!

I didn’t see the interview but I do believe in dumb luck. Sometimes things happen for no reason, that may be because you happen to be at the right place at the right time. I do believe your odds of having good luck are increased if you work you tail off and network with the people who can help you.

I think luck is preparartion meeting opportunity.

It IS admirable Simon admitted to depression. It makes it easier for other people not to feel so alone if they are unhappy, and to know that you can hit bottom and then gradually turn your life around.

Hope that your cold gets better.
I did not watch Oprah today.

Hope that you don’t quit blogging.

On my old blog, it took me two years to build up traffic (to the extent that I was getting 35 comments each day). But then I was posting every day, and visitig every single one of my links each time they posted something new and leaving a comment each time.
    It gets quite time consuming.
I quite and went away, and then came back later on, but I’ve backed off now and only spend a few minutes on the computer each day, and so sometimes I’ll only get one or two comments, if that.

I saw that edition of Oprah. I’ve always liked Simon Cowell because he is honest. He says it like it is and doesn’t beat around the bush. I had known his ‘back story’ and also that he suffers from deprassion from time to time. All of this always made me see his humanity.
As to luck…I disagree with Oprah on that one. Of course being ready and prepared, etc., is very very important, BUT….’luck’ plays a big part in an opportunity coming your way—at least, in Show Business it does. Someone can be prepared as all get out, but if that lucky opportunity doesn’t come your way…..well…I know so very many people who ARE prepared and just needing that lucky moment.
Carroll O’Connor always said he was such a very lucky man as an actor. He always said he knew that there were Hundreds if not more, actors as good as he was and even better, but that this opportunity came his way and he knew how lucky he was that it did. It came to him in the form of “Archie Bunker”…and Indeed, he was completely prepared and ready and he ran with it for all it was worth, and Bless him had this incredible success. I think I asmired that honesty about Carroll more than anything else, because he was humble about that. Right Time, Right Place. I’ve heard Oprah say this about not believe in ‘kuck’ many many times and frankly, have never agreed with her…so, that’s my opinion, my dear.
I hope you WIN the Lottery!

Hi Dorothy, as my middle of the road thinking goes, I believe there is luck but I also believe in preparation. Sometimes in my journey I have been at the right time and the right place. I was given an open door. Now I could not walk through that door and then I wouldn’t be given the benefits of what was behind the door.

I think of luck as the open doors that each of us have been given in life. Some of us have walked through those doors others of us have shut the door. You can prepare for a lifetime, but when the door opens you have to have the courage to walk through. Some people spend a lifetime in preparation and they fail in the execution of their plan.

There is luck, opportunity, and preparation what is missing in the formula is execution. It is not always the most talented that executes te plan, but the most fearless. Be well

I do believe in luck but I do not rely on it so much. Luck comes with persistence and faith. :-)

Dorothy, I hope your cold goes away quickly for you.

I think there is defnitely such a thing as “luck”. Would I rely on luck to get me anything? No, but it’s nice to see that good things can happen and in the most unexpected ways.

Hi. I believe in Lady Luck and there is much we can do to help her. Being honest with ourselves and understanding that life’s hiccups are common and not confined to anyone person, we can surmount most of the obstactles put in front of us by admitting our faults and doing something constructive after the damage has been done, whether it’s our fault or not, as in Simons case. We only have to look around to see what terrible things are happening in our world to see that we’re not really doing that bad afterall. We just have to think outside our square when depression comes. Take Care, Peter

I don’t watch Oprah so I had no idea that Simon went through all of that. I guess we all struggle with depression every now and then.

Don’t worry about increasing traffic, write when you feel like it, enjoy it and give us the enjoyment from it.
I used to worry in the same way but, found more pleasure doing my own thing, your followers if faithful will be there for you.

I say Sarah should get all she can. Like Diana, the wives are treated terrible, historical in fact. I agree with Old Lady from Hills, luck IS a part of life amd some people get a lucky break. I did not have the luck of being born in the Trump family. I did not have the luck of many actors who got parts I just have had some bad luck. I have had good luck too. None of that stops me from working hard every day, but luck is luck. SF has done this sales b4, she was just unlucky this time. I liked Simon for his honesty. It is hard to hear the truth, “as a singer, you stink!” I am trying my chords in front of people for the first time in a few weeks and I am prepared to hear such words and worse! LOL I don’t care. It is all about the journey.
